Sometimes I Can't Even Explain it Myself

Just rewatched the Criminal Minds episode with Alex O'Loughlin (in the role that shows the dude can ACT), as the serial killer Vincent.

I loved Vincent. All his twitches and tics, and aside from being, you know, completely murderous, he was such a sweetheart. Really, he just needed a hug.

I'm pretty sure I'm doing it wrong.

He was SO good!
I think, maybe, that's why some folks think he's not a good actor - because he's actually so good that he's utterly believable and people think he's just being himself. I've found him totally believable as every character I've seen him play, and they're all very different people.

I usually find with Criminal Minds that they aim for pretty evil bad guys - there usually isn't a lot of room for thinking 'oh, how sad'. But with Vincent, I was seriously cheering for him to get away and to survive, and genuinely irritated that the team actually found him so fast.

*hugs* for Vincent. And for the little boy. :(

I'm looking for the ep online now. I haven't seen much of the post-Mandy Pantinkin episodes, but you've made me curious. :-)

I hope you find it! I'd love to hear what you think.

I never really watched Criminal Minds with any regularity. I suppose I'm neutral on it for the most part, though I do really like the women characters. I kind of totally hate Morgan though. Still, I was watching various Alex stuff (Three Rivers FTW), and was flipping channels when I came across that CM episode just starting, and I really liked it. :)

I just watched the ep, and wow, can I understand your reaction. I didn't think I would, but that poor (former-)boy just needs a hug.

Also, I think this one's been the cheesiest, most dumbed-down CM ep I've seen; a whole room of behavior analysts can't tell their unsub's OCD WHILE STARING AT A SIDEWALK. I can understand that none of them watches Monk, but come on, at least one of them must have been a Jack Nicholson fan! (As Good As It Gets, anyone? Anyone? Special Agent phd phd Bueller?)

I don't know what it is with long-running shows making their characters dumber season by season; in CSI: Miami Ryan has turned into a dumb lazy slack-off in the last few seasons, and I'm not even mentioning the rest of the incompetent team's butts being saved every single time by Horatio walking in, bending down, finding the most important clue yet, and then walking out to solve the case. And in this CM it looks like the whole SBU's intellect has dropped so low it's laughable; they point out the obviously obvious, they "puzzle out" such "tough puzzles" as a OCD by two separate clues -- because one compulsion is not enough of an indicator, obviously; and that same OCD guy takes off his slippers when he leaves the bathroom and changes into another pair of slippers -- but steps with the new pair across the bathroom's line and onto its floor, because that doesn't transfer kooties from one place to the other at all. OCD, ur doin it wrong wrong wrong ong ong. And then one of them pulls the unsub's social security number out of the fact that a long distant cousin used a certain type of toothpaste and thus always had peach-y breath. My goodness, it's like Numbers and their "a kitten farts, so it all makes perfect mathematical sense!" logic.

...But I'm getting off point. Sorry. All in all, a good ep, I enjoyed it -- you're right, the bad guy of the week was awesome in the role, as badly explained as it must have been to him; I guess he's not a Monk or Nicholson fan, either -- but boy, am I gonna steer clear of this show's latest seasons. I don't need to watch the characters I once thought were at least competent take turns playing dumb&dumber; non-fictional television is full of that anyways.

tl;dr - glad you induced me to watch, it was an evening well spent. :-)
